Project: Make Safe Fire Damaged Building
Division: Demolition and Dismantling
Wm. Munro Construction (Highland) Limited’s demolition and dismantling division were called out by the owners of the Eastgate Hostel, Inverness following a large fire within the hostel building leading to a dangerous structure notice being served on the building by the Highland Council.
The Eastgate Hostel is located in the centre of Inverness within the pedestrianised shopping district, a fire started in the upper floors of the four storey building partially destroying the upper floor and roof structure. Due to the potential risk of falling debris and the urgent need for the pedestrianised shopping street to be re opened Munros were requested to attend site, remove all loose debris and dismantle the structurally unsafe sections of the roof structure.
Works were successfully completed over a weekend period under the very watchful eye of Inverness’s shoppers utilising two 50 ton cranes, one equipped with a man basket and the second with a skip to lower the arising debris.
Munros were selected due to a proven track record in safely undertaking emergency make safe works and our ability to react quickly to our clients request, Munros acted as principal contractor and co-ordinated all our activities with the investigating Police department, the Highland Council building control department, the surrounding retail shops and our clients Structural Engineer to ensure a successful outcome.
